Today, Governor Abbott issued Executive Order GA-18, announcing that with the expiration of Executive Order GA-16 on Thursday, April 30th, many Texas businesses will be allowed to reopen under new safety guidelines and capacity limitations. He also issued a 64-page “Open Texas” Report detailing the rules and restrictions that will apply beginning May 1st. Under the new rules, construction will remain an essential service, and while the Governor encourages the use of face masks, the Order prohibits local governments from issuing civil or criminal penalties for failure to wear a face mask.
The Executive Order and Open Texas Report were posted on the Governor’s website, which crashed soon after the announcement. We’ve provided working links above for those trying to access the documents. We are reviewing the new Order and Report and will post any updates relevant to the construction industry on the COVID-19 and Construction FAQ page of our website and in our safety protocol guidelines.
